Chance to see plans for pool site

A PUBLIC exhibition is to be held to showcase revised plans for the former Walton swimming pool site.

Elmbridge Council, which owns the land in Kings Close, has proposed to build 22 houses and 12 flats, after its initial scheme for 26 houses was rejected in a north area planning meeting in December, due to lack of public consultation.

The exhibition is being held after the council resubmitted plans in May.

Residents were so outraged that there was still no public consultation, that they called a meeting with the council's chief executive, Rob Moran. He decided to shelve the revised bid and hold a public exhibition.

Watchdog group Save Walton's Access to Green Spaces (SWAGS) has been actively protesting against the proposal.

It says the development would encroach on Elmgrove recreation park, which lies behind the site of the former swimming pool.

A SWAGS spokeswoman said: "We would strongly urge all residents to attend."

The exhibition is at Elm Grove Hall, in Hersham Road, Walton, on Saturday, July 4, between 10am and 1pm, and on Tuesday, July 7, from 4pm to 8pm.
