A MAN has been stabbed twice in the lower abdomen after a fight broke out by the Percy Lambert pub in Weybridge.
Witnesses said two men had become involved in a fight, ouside the public house in High Street, at about 10.15pm on Friday (November 22) and a 39-year-old from Weybridge, was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey and later released.
Police wrestled a suspect to the ground and charged him with grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.
Stephen Godfrey, 43, from Weybridge, appeared at Staines Magistrates Court the following day and has been remanded in custody. He will appear at Guildford Crown Court on February 3 2010 for a plea and case management hearing.
Elmbridge Inspector Richard Haycock said: "There's an increase of knife crime generally in society that we know of. You hear about people carrying knives in London a lot. However, in terms of local policing I don't think we are seeing an increase in the borough."
Management at the Percy Lambert did not want to comment.
