A CYCLIST is in a critical condition after a collision with an ambulance on Saturday (December 5) night.
The 50-year-old man, from Woking, was cycling across Lockfield Drive after coming from the canal path on the Bridge Barn side of the road when the collision happened at about 9.55pm.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency call, travelling from Woking town centre to Goldsworth Park.
As it passed through the traffic lights at the junction with Arthur's Bridge Road.
The victim was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey with serious head and leg injuries, then transferred to St George's Hospital Tooting, where there is a specialist unit for head injuries.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "Two members of staff on board the ambulance were uninjured.
"The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time, and another vehicle was sent to deal with the incident."
