'Fantastic football odyssey' awaits Weybridge four

Four Weybridge men will attempt to visit all 20 Premiership grounds in 24 hours

Four friends from Weybridge will attempt a record-breaking sponsored visit to every Premier League ground in 24 hours on Saturday.

Craig Morgan, 28, Dean Roe, 22, James Slade, 27 and Alistair Trump 24, will be visiting all 20 stadiums in a bid to raise at least £1,500 for the Woking and Sam Beare hospices.

The quartet will be driving to Portsmouth in the middle of the night and travelling as far north as Sunderland via Manchester before heading back to London, and will be in contact with Weybridge-based community radio station Brooklands FM along the way.

Mr Morgan said: “We will be making the trip by car, starting at 5:30am at Portsmouth’s ground Fratton Park, then the clock starts ticking and we have 24 hours to get to every Premiership club. We have drawn up a schedule, and are planning to do 200 mile shifts behind the wheel, so that we can stay awake and alert.”

Many of the Premier League clubs have offered their support to the group, with Mr Morgan particularly pleased with the contribution from the champions, Manchester United.

He said: “United have been great. They have offered us a tour of the museum, and a quick one I might add. The club have also donated some tickets to us, which we are very grateful for. A number of other clubs will be donating signed shirts, so we are very pleased with the response.”

The charity is close to the groups heart, having seen friend and relatives treated there in the past. Mr Morgan said: “It’s a worthy local charity and we have seen first hand the work that they do. We are not worried about the cost involved, we just want to raise as much money as we can.”
