BOBBY Davro the new patron of Radio Wey presented Joshua Deller Dad, Stephen Deller with a cheque for £460 last week at St Peter's Hospital.
The Joshua Deller appeal, a massive fundrasing operation to get money for a baby boy's American cancer treatment still needs to raise an additional £100,000.
Twenty one month old Joshua was diagnosed on Christmas eve 2008 with a neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer.
Since then parents Stephen and Amy who both work at St Peters Hospital in Chertsey have been on a marathon mission to raise £350,000 for antibody therapy treatment, only available in the States. Joshua is currently in New York undergoing chemotherapy.
Stephen who is head of medical buying at St Peters said: “Joshua is OK, he is having lots of tests at the moment because he has built up resistance to the antibody therapy, he is having chemotherapy to get his immune system down so he can continue with the treatment.
“Amy is with him now. Having to deal with it all 24/7 does get to her a bit, especially when she's out shopping and she sees families together. Joshua has missed out on a huge amount like going to toddler groups and doing what normal families would do.
“It is amazing what Radio Wey has done, every little bit helps. So many people have done things. They read an article online or in the newspaper and the next thing they're doing something, I know one guy is even running the London Marathon.
“If I ever had the capacity I would like to thank every single person individually for what they have done. I would just like to say thank you to everyone.”
The money raised by Radio Wey was sourced from two concerts performed by local artists at The Riverside Club in Staines in October.
The station also donated money to Hospital Radio Wey and The Spelthorne OnetoOne Cub that raises money for children with learning difficulties.
Comedian Bobby Davro, who was recently a contestant on Dancing on Ice, presented the cheque to Mr Deller on Wednesday February 3 at the Radio Wey studio situated in the grounds of St Peters Hospital.
