PC DAVE Stockle who has been the Chertsey beat bobby for eight years has recently had two weeks off patch recovering from acute appendicitis.
The father-of-two who lives in Camberley was diagnosed with the condition on Tuesday January 19.
PC Stockle was admitted to St Peter's hospital on Wednesday January 20 and returning home the same day. He returned to work on Monday (Feb 8) and is relieved to be back on the beat.
He said: “It was pretty bad, I was one stage away from the appendix bursting. My wife was worried because initially we didn't know what it was, I came back from work on the Tuesday and I had acute stomach pains.
“I think usually she thinks 'oh typical man, it's just man flu' but this time she knew that I was quite ill. The first week of recovery, I felt terrible but the second week I was just bored, there is only so much daytime TV you can watch. So I'm pleased to be back at work.”
Concerned residents all over Chertsey were wishing PC Stockle a speedy recovery this week.
Vicar of St Peter's Church Reverend Tim Hillier said: “I've known Dave for a long time and I send him my very best wishes. I value his as a friend and a trusted member of the community of Chertsey. Dave has done much over the years to really understand the young people of Chertsey.”
PC Stockle has been involved with The Hub a derelict building that has recently been transformed into a youth centre and new home of Jubilee Church. Jubilee Church member Adrian Heywood said: “Dave Stockle is something of a local hero in the eyes of Jubilee Church and all those associated with The Hub. We couldn't have done what we've done without him.”
Surrey County Councillor Chris Norman said: “I'm glad to hear Dave is on the road to recovery. I've known Dave for all time he's worked on Chertsey and he has served the borough very well, I look forward to seeing him back on the neighbourhood beat.”
