Sainsbury's is to open a store at Monument Hill in Weybridge
THE derelict former Wine Rack store at Monument Hill in Weybridge is to reopen as a branch of Sainsbury's.
The supermarket chain has taken over the empty premises in Temple Market Parade, Queens Road, and plans to open from 7am until 11pm Monday to Saturday, and up-to 10.30pm on Sundays.
But its application to Elmbridge Council for permission to sell alcohol during opening hours has already attracted complaints from neighbours.
Seven local residents have objected for reasons including traffic and road safety, parking, and antisocial behaviour.
Julian Adams of North Common, wrote: "By permitting the management to sell alcohol beyond the existing licensing time will exacerbate the problem of drunkenness, rowdiness and littering that occurs on the cricket green, especially in the summer."
James Bromley, of Greenside House, raised concerns about delivery lorries and the lack of parking, adding: "There is a conflict between existing businesses within Temple Market such as the Bengal Clipper whose customers park 2-3 hours and the availability of spaces for high volume, short term usage, that will be required by Sainsbury's."
Elmbridge councillors are to meet to discuss Sainsbury's application on Monday March 22, 2pm, at the Civic Offices in Esher.
