Children at the Flying Start Pre-School, Molesey, with their scarecrow
A PRE-SCHOOL in Molesey have had its scarecrow selected to be on display at the Hampton Court Flower Show from July 6.
Children at the Flying Start Pre-School, in Walton Road, decided to make their scarecrow, named Touchstone the Jester, who is a character in Shakespeare play, As You Like It.
The pre-school entered the competition as they are part of the RHS Gardening Project. They had to have an element of plant life and recycling in its make up.
Nursery owner, Jo Robini, said: "The children enjoyed decorating his trousers with hand prints, painting his shoes which were made out of recycled crocs and painting the features on his face. They also helped to make and colour artificial flowers from recycled drinks bottles.
"There are three prizes to be won during the show. The children are all excited at having our scarecrow on display at the show. Anyone who visits the show can vote for their favourite and we are urging residents to vote for Touchstone the Jester from Flying Start' to win."
The children also planted seeds last month in pots in their sensory garden hoping that they would grow sufficiently well to take to the flower show to decorate round the base of the scarecrow.
