It's safety at last for Vandals

SURREY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Effingham 73 all out Weybridge Vandals 75-2 Vandals won by eight wickets

VANDALS secured their Division One place with their most convincing win of the season - thumping fellow strugglers Effingham.

With Vandals' strongest bowling attack on show, hopes were very high. Bentley struck first, then Jon Powell took two more quick wickets. Effingham briefly rallied with Mulab striking a few boundaries. But when Will Powell and Gareth Foreman (4-20) joined the attack, Effingham were clinically disposed of for a meagre 73.

Even with Vandals' batting woes this season they did not fail to reach such a low target.

Skipper Seb Hall (43 not out) and John Hall saw them home to an early finish and safety at last!

SURREY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Ripley 133 all out Byfleet 134-3 Byfleet won by seven wickets

BYFLEET cruised to a comfortable victory over neighbours Ripley on Saturday to ensure a mid-table position which is no more than their inconsistent form has deserved.

They opened with all guns blazing, rapidly reducing their rivals to 23-4, with two wickets apiece for Brent Kay and Roland Hockin. Had it not been for a dreadful spell of five dropped catches, Ripley's innings would have been all over before the tea interval.

Ripley skipper Alvey did his best to lead a revival, before an unfortunate collision with one of the umpires forced him to go off to hospital with a suspected broken collar bone. Not surprisingly, Ripley's innings ended soon after. Sean Savage and Kay finished with three wickets apiece, while Hockin's marathon spell yielded 2-35.

Byfleet have struggled chasing mediocre targets this season, but this time Andy Savage (59) and namesake Sean (28no) saw them through without too much trouble.

SURREY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Deando Ruxley 103 all out West End Esher 105-7 West End won by three wickets

A DEVASTATING spell of bowling by Alan Wyatt set up West End's three wicket victory at Ruxley Lane on Saturday.

In just 9.3 overs Wyatt tore the Deando batting apart, taking SEVEN wickets for just 24 runs.

With James Harvey also claiming 2-20, West End were left a target of just over 100.

They did not have the best of starts, reaching 40-4. But then Xenos Foster hit a vital 35, including five fours, to help his side make sure of victory.

SURREY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO Whiteley Village 231-9 dec Westfield Saints 91 Whiteley Village won by 140 runs

SKIPPER Olly Harris led from the front to set Whiteley Village on the way to decisive victory over Westfield Saints on Saturday.

After Scott Stiff (28) and Terry Pope (25) had given the Village a steady start, Harris came in to hit an imperious 83.

With Bipin Waghela adding a more than useful 48, they were able to set Saints a tough target. It was one they got nowhere near, due to some terrific bowling from Pope, who took 3-38 from 15 overs. Waghela made it a good day with bat and ball, claiming 3-29.
