CHERTSEY made amends for Saturday's errors to earn their place in the next round, with a battling show at Deal last night.

After a goalless first half in which there was more heat than light, Deal took a 49th minute lead.

Town failed to clear a free kick and in a goalmouth scramble Reg Godden fired home.

Town levelled in the 69th minute when substitute Kevin Cooper crossed for Luke Muldowney scored with a looping header.

Five minutes from time the supplier became executioner as Cooper threaded home a shot through a narrow gap to earn Town a Preliminary Round trip to Sittingbourne on Saturday week.
